Spring is in the air! And nothing is more spring like than flowers, right? I am thrilled to be taking part in the In Bloom, a Spring Blanket CAL, hosted by Claire Rye-Koswener of Bearrye. For this project, we all used Mighty Stitch from WeCrochet. This gorgeous acrylic/wool blend comes in a wide variety of colors perfect for a floral blanket. I used the colors Oyster, Sky, and Wisteria. You may also sub your favorite worsted weight yarn. Just be sure to pick something that is durable and washable so you can easily care for your finished blanket.
The background of this square was made with mini c2c. This fun technique is a great spin on traditional c2c, and features hdc rather than dc. This creates a more dense fabric – perfect for decorative blocks like this one.

Abbreviations used:
st stitch
ch chain
sc single crochet
hdc hdc
dc double crochet

slst slip stitch

Special Stich:
Mini C2C:
Row 1: ch 4, hdc in 3rd and 4th ch from hook (1st block & row 1 completed),
Row 2: ch 4, hdc in 3rd & 4th ch from hook, (1st block made), sl st in ch 2 turning sp from previous row, ch 2, 2 hdc in same ch 2 sp. (row 2 complete)
Row 3 (and on to decrease point): ch 4, hdc in 3rd & 4th ch from hook, (1st block made), *sl st in ch 2 sp from previous row, ch 2, 2 hdc in same ch 2 sp*, repeat from * to * until end of row.
To decrease:
Row 1: turn, slst into the tops of the first 2 hdc of last row and ch 2 sp (3 slst), *ch 2, 2 hdc in next ch sp, slst to next ch 2 sp*, repeat from * to * across.
Row 2 (and on to end): repeat Row 1 of decrease section.
The nice thing about mini c2c is that you can easily adjust how large or small your square is by adding or subtracting rows.
Here is a fun tutorial from MeghanMakesDo. She uses 4 stitches for each block, but the general concept is the same.
THE PATTERN
In main color:
Row 1: Ch 4, hdc in 3rd and 4th ch from hook (1 block),
Row 2: Ch 4, hdc in 3rd & 4th ch from hook, (1st block made), sl st in ch 2 turning sp from previous row, ch 2, 2 hdc in same ch 2 sp. (2 blocks)
Row 3: Ch 4, hdc in 3rd & 4th ch from hook, (1st block made), *sl st in ch 2 sp from previous row, ch 2, 2 hdc in same ch 2 sp*, repeat from * to * until end of row. (3 blocks)
Rows 4 – 16: Repeat row 3.(16 blocks)
At this point, measure your square. It should be 8 inches across the bottom. Add or remove a row if needed to ensure your final square is 8”.
Row 17: Turn, slst into the tops of the first 2 hdc of last row and ch 2 sp (3 slst), *ch 2, 2 hdc in next ch sp, slst to next ch 2 sp*, repeat
from * to * across. (15 blocks)
Row 18 – 36: Repeat row 17, (1 block on final row)
Break yarn and weave in ends.
Flower applique
Make 2 in CC1 and 2 in CC2.
Round 1: Ch 4, join with slst to first ch to make a circle.
Round 2: In the circle, *slst 2, ch 2, dc, tc, ch 2, tc, dc, ch 2*, repeat from * to * 4 more times, then slst to first st to join. (5 petals)
Break yarn and weave in ends.
Assembly:
Choose how to arrange your flowers. I decided to put mine in a cluster at the top corner of the square, but you may choose to spread them out, put them in the center, etc. The options are endless – especially if you make more flower appliques!
